Brief Psychotherapy

Brief Psychotherapy is a mode of therapy that as its name says is shorter than the classic long-term model. This time is usually predetermined during the first session and can last up to a maximum of one year. She is more focused on an issue chosen by the patient and the therapist is more incisive so that treatment can be done within the pre-stipulated time limit.

It came in opposition to the psychoanalysis treatments that besides having an indefinite time promotes the analyst's neutrality, while in brief psychotherapy the psychologist speaks more, makes more interventions and stimulates the patient's action. The choice of the focus of therapy and the duration of treatment is made after psychodiagnosis and understanding of the patient's condition, these decisions are made jointly by the psychologist and the patient.

It is a recommended modality for people who believe they need therapy, but do not have time or do not want to do psychotherapy in the long term. Remembering that if it is considered necessary, it is possible to switch to long-term therapy
